I went and tried my ATM card at that bloody machine, and I COULD use it. This is really bad, as it made me look stupid. :-( I still believe it wasn't my fault, I didn't entered the PIN wrong. It must be the machine that screwed up my (two) cards! Oh, well, at least I can now use the card.
Last week was long holiday, Sunday was Makhabucha, so we got Monday off as the substitution. In stead of going back home on Saturday, I decided to go back on Sunday instead. Saturday afternoon, after teaching at Kumon, I went to see two movies, Serendipity and Hero (Chinese movie).
Serendipity was entertaining. It was a bit too predictable and unreal. Everything is well planned and perfect for happy ending story. If nothing else, it gave an escape from real gloomy life for a couple hours.
The character in the movie believes in faith and destiny. But it was once mentioned that if there is already a certain path destined for us, then we wouldn't have to try anything. It will all just happen, so we might as well just sit there and do nothing.
I watched the TV the other night, Oom Siriyakorn Pookkawet, an actress, said that, what if we watched from so far above, and we might see the certain path already paved for everybody, and there are other influences and drives all around us that push us along that path.
I kind of believe it in a bit different way. I think we have been destined for something. However, the path that leads to us the destination will depend on our actions and decisions. Every time we make the decision, the course might change to a smoother or rougher path. We may go closer or farther from where we are destined to be. But in the end, we will all get there.
Hero was amazing. I watched the movie in awe. I saw the review in Matichon Weekly a while back, before I have seen it, the critic said the movie was "so beautiful it hurts." I didn't read the rest of the review because I think the reviews often give away all the surprise you will see in the movies. I don't exactly think the movie was "so beautiful it hurts", but it definitely was one of the movie that I am glad I did not miss.
The story was unfolded in a smart and artistic way. Different colours were used to represent the mood, and deliver the message. I have seen other movies by this director Zhang Yimou. He got many awards and nominations since his early works. I feel that now he is coming to a lighter subject. I kind of like his recent works more because I am shallow. :P
I like the movies that are entertaining and touchy-feely. I like to have some hope and faith when I left the cinema.
